To apply for a Canadian student visa, ensure you have the following essential documents:
- Valid Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for the intended stay, covering the duration of your course.
- Proof of Acceptance: Provide the acceptance letter from a designated learning institution (DLI), recognized by Canadian Immigration. For Quebec applicants, include the Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ).
- Proof of Funds: Demonstrate sufficient funds for tuition, living expenses, and return fare through a Canadian bank account, Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC), loans, bank statements, or other acceptable means.
- Passport Size Photographs: Submit two recent passport-sized photos meeting specified criteria for offline applications. For online applications, provide a digital copy.
- Immigration Medical Examination (IME): Undergo a compulsory medical examination by empanelled doctors and submit the required documents. Schedule the exam in advance.
- English Language Proficiency Exam Score: Although not mandatory during the application, having an English proficiency score (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.) is recommended.
- Statement of Purpose: Submit an essay explaining the purpose of your trip to Canada and your understanding of your responsibilities as a student.
- Credit Card: If applying online, have a credit card to pay the CAD 150 application fee. Debit cards are not accepted.
A Canadian student visa is valid for 6 months to 5 years, depending on the course duration. It can be extended if required, and applications for visa extensions can be made even from India.
- Incomplete or Incorrect Documentation: Ensure that all documents are accurate, valid, and in line with the latest visa requirements.
- Insufficient Funds: Failure to demonstrate the financial capacity to cover tuition, living expenses, and return travel can lead to rejection.
- Failing the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Requirement: If the authorities aren't convinced of your intention to return after studies, your visa might be denied.
- Health or Character Issues: Negative health assessments or criminal backgrounds can lead to visa denials.
- Mismatch in Application Details: Inconsistencies in your application can raise red flags
